The Spiritual Lesson of Being Overlooked.

"Life for me ain't been no crystal stair." -Langston Hughes.

Langston Hughes

One of the biggest lessons I've learned on my spiritual journey is that when it comes to life-altering blessings, they can only be cashed out by God. No matter what or who owes me, God usually pays the difference and always pays in full! There are moments throughout my life when I have shown up and showed out for people who had no problem forgetting me on the roster when it was time to acknowledge those who had helped them along the way. This has included family, friends, spiritual family members, neighbors, employers, and the list goes on. People have taken my ideas (straight up copied if we are being honest), given credit to others for less, and have used me to fuel their opportunistic desires. And still, the best lesson I've learned aside from not letting others play in your face is to pay attention to people who only remember you when you are doing something for them. These people will not and cannot pour into you if they are too busy sipping from your cup! And the truth is, the best acknowledgment you will have comes from God. Does it hurt sometimes when people don't appreciate your contributions or, worse, intentionally leave you out as a demonstration of insecurity by way of trying to punish you or not allowing others to know who you are? Yes! It hurts like hell if you're a Princess Waterworks like myself, haha, and it is crazy disrespectful, but that pain is nothing compared to not knowing who you are or liking yourself! The reality is that there can only be one me, and there should only be one you. The best way to counteract being overlooked and to embrace the wisdom that comes with not receiving our flowers is by continuing to be your authentic self, loud and proud!

I've seen many people take my ideas, whether it's from how I dress, do my nails, business ideas, or channeled messages I've mentioned in my services, and turn them into something profitable for themselves. All the while it's time for the celebration, act as if I don't exist, or worse, as if I've never contributed! I'm not surprised by this because the reality is I am the star in any room that I stand in, so extra press is not necessary, but what if I told you there is a special reason as to why you may be hidden, forgotten, or "overlooked" when it is time to be acknowledged for all you have done? Here's the truth: God will conceal you because of your power! Yes, baby, look at it like this: no one can take your divine power or your purpose away from you, especially when they need your light to build what they are trying to steal or replicate from you. God is preparing you for something and is starting by revealing to you who will not be at your table when the blessings come! More importantly, getting your mind, body, and soul ready for the mission you are being called to take. This is important because you're not being tested on your belief; you're being tested on how well you obey what the divine Spirit is calling you to do. This could be tricky if you are an individual who worries about what is practical and is often deceived by others about who you are and what you're capable of! You must remember this key thing: people can put whoever they want on a pedestal or try to undermine what you have contributed or built, but when GOD says you are IT, who are they to say anything?

God has warned me about the questionable people who surround me through simple observation. Have you been constantly asking to be seen as a person by an individual who never was consistent or showed up for you in a way that mattered? You will find that God still requires you to take the high road! Not in a way where you necessarily turn the other cheek, but in a way that you are reminded about the long game! Currently, people may overlook you because they can or because they don't perceive you as worthy of acknowledgment. Still, if you remember the story about David, God saw him fit to be King even when he was just a shepherd, while everyone else saw Eliab fit to be "the one." However, it did not matter; social currency never matters in the eyes of God. These challenges are happening so you can get your mind right and be successful at this game called life, even when regular ass people may have you f*cked up, haha! Spirit doesn't miss the details about life, and when it is all said and done, everyone will get precisely what they have earned. The spiritual lesson behind being overlooked is that the right people wouldn't dare to exclude you twice! The spiritual lesson behind being overlooked is that the right opportunity will always present itself when you are genuinely focused on yourself. You cannot miss it! The spiritual lesson behind being overlooked is that God will always put us to the test when the reward is so big! "Whom much is given, much is required", and if the mundane doing mundane shit already flusters you, how are you going to face the opposition that comes along when you're sitting at a table that no one wants you to be at? Better yet, how are you going to protect the blessings that God has given you when other people want what you have if you do not know how to conceal and master your emotions? If it sounds like boot camp, it is, and the first step is to toughen up, train, and be ready so you don't have to get ready! When your time comes, do precisely what you are being told to do. And sometimes the only thing you're being told to do is to keep moving forward despite the distractions that are meant to come when you are in alignment with God's mission for you.

God has created us all, and we are unique and unforgettable. What makes this even more special is that God has created us to uniquely express all the different levels of beauty, expressions, and complexities of Him/Her/Them through us. To truly be overlooked, God would have to forget about you, which is not happening here! God is preparing you for what is to come. Keeping the peace is not about saying nothing or ruffling any feathers; it is about focusing on what is in front of you with a certain level of commitment and grace. Embrace the positive side of things by realizing the difference between a diss and a form of protection, and you will see not only the potential of what's to come but the spiritual growth that will increase within you. The right people, places, or things will always show up and show out for you, and you will never have to sacrifice who you are and what you are all about. Without any compromise, God will present you with your blessings on a silver platter in front of those who forget to mention your name or undermine your presence, as long as you obey the rules that come with this divine serving. Remember that you want for nothing because you already know that the key is that you are already whoever you need to be to get what you know you deserve and what is meant for you.

In Langston Hughes' poem "Mother to Son," a mother shares with her son that "life ain't been no crystal stair," meaning that she needs to persevere through life's challenges, regardless of the difficulties or neglect she may face from others. Why? Simply because what you are seeking is within. If you want the promotion, you already know what is required. You want to be acknowledged for your efforts and gifts; you already know what is needed. The massive lesson about being overlooked is perspective, because you're not being ignored; you are being prepared.
