Healing Our Wounds with Chiron.
Healers discover on their journeys that learning to live with our wounds does not mean we are healed. Astronomer Charles Kowal discovered Chiron on November 1, 1977, and immediately named the future chief centaur of the solar objects from the Kuiper belt Chiron because it orbits Saturn and Uranus. In Astrology, Chiron is known as "the wounded healer." Kowal was familiar with Greek mythology and saw the name Chiron fitting as Chiron was the first object identified in a new class of solar objects, which we now consider centaurs. We know the infamous Greek mythological story of Chiron, the centaur, a kind and knowledgeable spiritual teacher who could not heal himself. As healers, we know firsthand that there are moments when we can share our experiences and tried and true remedies, but no matter what, we all have our wounds that we must tend to or learn to live with. Chiron does a beautiful job of reminding us that we can only refer to ourselves as healed when we have successfully alchemized our pain and suffering and have transformed it into the expansion of self and the people around us. So, just like Chiron, who couldn't heal his leg, he became a spiritual leader acknowledged in society. Chiron transformed from a herbalist and botanist to a prophet and wise man; the Astronomical interpretations of Chiron did, too, as it went from being considered a planetoid, asteroid, comet, minor planet, and now a centaur, and so on! Perhaps to heal means to change. Throughout our journey, we realize that suffering is a choice and that what we're experiencing is only here to make us who we are meant to be. Sure, this is a lot easier said than done. However, that simple reminder is why we must soften our hearts toward others and ourselves to navigate tough challenges and sometimes the things we cannot or do not want to see. Let's explore Chiron through the signs and houses:
Chiron in Aries/1st House: People with this placement may struggle with body or health issues. They may also need to know what their body and presence communicate to others. Meditation and self-reflective work would be helpful.
Chiron in Taurus/2nd House: Issues with security and comfort or a deep-rooted fear of losing stability, money, or beauty. They could battle with self-worth or how they are valued. Having a financial advisor, maintaining a wardrobe that reflects your style, and investing in home surroundings will help ease discomfort regarding worth and security.
Chiron in Gemini/3rd House: People with this sign may have blockages in understanding their feelings. They may also be self-conscious about their communication or believe they lack intellectual skills. It is essential to keep a community of friends with the same interests and encourage the empowerment of every individual.
Chiron in Cancer/4th House: They may experience abandonment, be sensitive to others' energy, and feel they don't always fit in. They may need more direction and focus on their purpose. Prioritize your well-being by doing therapy and coaching sessions, cooking for your loved ones, nurturing a project you care about, and knowing when to take a break from always helping the world.
Chiron in Leo/5th House: A deep fear of being ignored or disliked. People only sometimes acknowledge them for their creativity or efforts. May falsely deal with the belief of being trapped or lacking freedom. Get dressed, take selfies, and show off your outfits! Positive mirror talk will do you well.
Chiron in Virgo/6th House: They may feel that whatever they do for others is not enough and could be obsessed with perfection or meeting expectations—self-sacrificing mode or overly analytical of others that disappoint or annoy them. Take a break from the world and remind yourself that you are enough because you're incredibly lovable and that love is not transactional!
Chiron in Libra/7th House: May have a fixation or a career in helping others. People-pleasing to their detriment or are overly self-conscious of their appearance and lack the communication skills to express their authentic selves. Be okay with not being liked, do beauty rituals that involve spiritual baths, treat yourself to a nice restaurant, or do a spa day!
Chiron in Scorpio/8th House: Different dynamics in experiencing themes of death, transition, and financial loss. Spiritual disconnection or being let down by those you trusted. Conversations that involve lying or gaslighting for the sake of having the upper hand. Doing sessions with an incredible ass therapist, perfecting your craft, exploring new spiritual systems, and meeting new people will do you just right.
Chiron in Sagittarius/9th House: Painful realizations of truth or not being told the truth. Fear of new heights in academic pursuits. Lack of motivation regarding purpose. Explore the world by traveling to the places on your bucket list, playing a documentary or audiobook you're interested in while you cook, and doing something new!
Chiron in Capricorn/10th House: Issues of not feeling recognized or validated by the individuals closest to us. People may need help receiving compliments, proper recognition, and the desire to avoid the spotlight. Choose your friends wisely, have faith that your hard work will pay off, look forward to being needed, and invest in quality clothes.
Chiron in Aquarius/11th House: Fear of thinking outside the box due to social scrutiny and not wanting to be a part of a community due to past trauma. Being wounded by things that do not come easy. Fake it until you make it, know when to say no, and have faith when saying yes! Network with unconventional individuals.
Chiron in Pisces/12th House: A deep fear of enemies that leads to stagnation. Loss of self and spirit. A tendency to be pessimistic about spirituality. Constantly questioning what has become of your life. Keep a beautiful view as your screensaver. Talk to a therapist with a spiritual background. Keep a dream journal. Listen to enjoyable music. Keep a pet fish. Occasionally, enjoy a glass of wine. Read a book by Eckhart Tolle.
Astrologer Melanie Reinhart suggests factoring in the planetary ruler of the sign that your Chiron is in. For example, if you have Chiron in Cancer, you would want to look at your moon placement for further insight into the specific arena and work needed that may become a theme in your life or where you will be working out these wounds. When it comes to Chiron, there are three roles that you can embody: the victim, the rescuer, and the persecutor. You may be heavily involved in one of these positions, making you an antagonist or protagonist! You may play each role or one more often than the others throughout your life. Meaning that maybe you're a hero, catalyst, or death wish at any moment in time in someone else's book. Either way, you must understand that you may not be conscious of it, but you are accountable for the results that come with it. The true goal when working with Chiron is being secure in the things you need to work on, what others may be working on, and the pain or trauma that surfaces rise in the hopes of being cleared. Clearing can appear as prayers, proper boundaries, rituals, therapy, seeking solitude, taking a chance, constant transformation, and elevation of consciousness. As we know, Chiron becomes a wise teacher when accepting that exploring the wounds of ourselves and the world can be beneficial if we are willing to use them for the greater good. Be mindful of how we can implement wisdom and allow it to shape our perception and worldview.
Happy Healing,
